OMG! Dunkaroos Making a Comeback!
By: Jessica Biggs
If your mouth began to water after reading that, you are not alone. (I got chills). General Mills just announced it will be bringing back the lunch box staple of the 90’s and 2000’s this summer.
And Millenials are overjoyed!
Which reminds me, I need to find my Lisa Frank lunch box.
“We’re thrilled to relaunch Dunkaroos in the U.S. after years of it only being available in Canada,” says Jeff Caswell, president of Snacks at General Mills. “For those who grew up in the ‘90s, the original cookie-frosting combo represents the taste, color, and fun of being a kid during that decade. We know there’s a lot of love for Dunkaroos, and fans everywhere have been asking for it. We’re excited to help ‘90s kids relive all the best parts of childhood."
And in case you didn’t catch that, I just quoted the PRESIDENT OF SNACKS.
I had no idea that it was a legit job. I could be the President of Snacks. I love snacks. Where do I apply?
Anyway, back in 2012 General Mills discontinued the lunch and snack favorite in the U.S. and people took to social media, dedicating entire pages to the treat, and petitioning its return.
And for the past few years, some of us have survived on generic versions such as these or made pitiful attempts with Pinterest copycat recipes.
But not for much longer.
In January, Dunkaroos quietly teased its comeback with the creation of a Twitter and Instagram account.
No specific date has been provided as to when they will be released this summer.
And bad news for the chocolate frosting fans, this comeback is for the vanilla flavor only.
For all of the young bucks out there, let me put this in perspective for you. Dunkaroos are vanilla cookies that you dip into vanilla frosting mixed with sprinkles. For a tutorial on how to eat Dunakroos, please click on the link below.
