His music blends the feel-good sounds of country music with modern production and catchy, memorable melodies. His songs recall a simpler time in country, when it wasn’t so overrun by EDM and bro-country. As such, his rise has been meteoric. At just 44 years old, Stapleton has already released four studio albums, each of which has been certified gold or higher by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). He’s also been nominated for several Grammys, including Album of the Year in 2018 for "Travelling Alone," which he won in 2017 for "Travelling West."

His parents were both professional musicians and his mother, Linda Stapleton, was a singer-songwriter who penned "Love Is All Around" for Johnnie Maestro & the Brooklyn Bridge. Stapleton grew up in rural Tennessee and Alabama, collecting inspiration from his surroundings. All of this is evident in his music; he simultaneously celebrates country's past while looking to its future. In an interview with Rolling Stone Country, he said: “I think every song I write is trying to answer the question ‘What is country music?’” And when it comes to what makes Stapleton so special, there are two things. First, he has a voice like no other. The second? He doesn't just rely on that voice - he plays the guitar too! For example, during his performance of "Tennessee Whiskey" at the ACM Awards, Chris played solo and also sang beautifully.
