6 Unusual New Year's Resolutions That'll Redefine Your New Year

6 Unusual New Year's Resolutions That'll Redefine Your New Year

Every year, we celebrate New Year's Eve with a dramatic countdown, good friends, and plenty of champagne. We also make the same 'ol new year resolutions that we always make, and most of us fall off the wagon by March. This year, instead of making the same old resolutions change things up by challenging yourself to some of these new years resolutions instead:

Learn A New Party Trick

One of the reasons we don't follow through with our new year's resolutions is because we "resolve' to do something that we really don't want to do. This year, commit to doing something that you love and look forward to. Vow to learn and master a new trick that is sure to impress friends and family all year long. Consider learning:

  • A card trick
  • A magic trick
  • How to juggle
  • A riddle that'll drive everyone nuts
  • A cool dance

Balance Your Budget

When we make huge goals like "get out of debt" or "make more money," we can get easily overwhelmed. Instead, choose one financial aspect of your life to focus on. Maybe cut down how much you spend at Starbucks each week, or be hyper-focused on the way to turn your hobby into a side hustle. Instead of looking at your financial situation like a black hole of chaos, focus on one thing you can actively work on, and then do it!

Make A New Friend Each Month

If you're extroverted, this is probably an easy resolution. This just means you'll have to attend more parties, host more events, volunteer more often, and say yes to more social gatherings. Bummer. Resolve to put yourself out there more often, meet new people, and make one new friend each month. If you're introverted, this may be more of a challenge. But new friends can drastically enrich your life, and committing to stepping out of your comfort zone and building new relationships can make your new year a whole lot sweeter.

Spread Kindness

Decide that this year is your year for random acts of kindness. Make a resolution to do nice things for people without expecting anything in return. Donate to charity, bring in donuts for your co-workers, volunteer, or pay for the Starbucks order for the car behind you. Make it a point to spread more kindness this year. It costs nothing to be kind and can impact people in a way you could never imagine. Being kind will also change the way you feel about yourself this year.

Face A Fear

When you think about things that make you scared, what comes to mind? Public speaking? Heights? Flying on an airplane? Small spaces? Think of something that really freaks you out, but that you wish you could get over. Think of small but productive ways you could use this year to face this fear. What could you be doing if this fear didn't control you? Even if it means it takes you a whole year to face, you can take little, intentional steps each week to conquer it.

Disconnect

Raise your hand if you're addicted to your cell phone. We see you, put your hands down. We can get so caught up in the obsession of social media that we miss out on the life that is happening right in front of us. If you've got a habit of texting and driving, focus on that. Your life, or someone else's, depends on it. Make a goal to put the phone down more often, step back from the social media accounts that don't make you feel good about yourself, and spend more time connecting with the people you love.

How you end, 2019 is how you'll start 2020. So decide how you're going to focus on self-improvement next year, but start now. Who says you have to wait til 12:01 on January 1st to start making big moves?

We'd love to hear some of your New Years Resolutions! Tell us in the comments below!
